How are professional qualifications recognised in Cyprus and the EU?

If you want to practise a regulated profession, you apply to have your professional qualification recognised in the EU country where you intend to work, and you should first check the regulated professions database at ec.europa.eu/growth/tools-databases/regprof to see whether your profession is regulated there. A profession is regulated if you must hold a specific degree, sit special exams, and/or register with a professional body to access it. Seven sectoral professions benefit from automatic recognition: nurses, midwives, doctors, dentists, pharmacists, architects and veterinary surgeons. The general framework is Directive 2005/36/EC, with specific legislation for sailors, aircraft controllers, lawyers and commercial agents, and Point of Single Contact (PSC) Cyprus is available for general contact.
