Paphos suits families, expats and a calmer pace with great archaeology; Ayia Napa and Protaras are for beaches and nightlife; Limassol is cosmopolitan, luxury-leaning, with the marina and casino; Larnaca is airport-close, authentic and the best value; Nicosia is the real working capital for culture and shopping.

Do I need a car in Cyprus, or can I manage without one?

On the coast you can live on taxis and your feet; for villages, the Troodos mountains and the Akamas you really need a car or a guided tour. Ride-hailing apps that work here are Bolt, CabCY and nTaxi (Uber and Yandex do not operate in Cyprus). Intercity buses are cheap (about €1.50 in town, €7 day pass) but sparse and slow between towns. Driving is on the left.

Should I buy property in Cyprus, and what about title deeds?

Accepted Answer

Use an independent lawyer (not the developer’s) and confirm the title deed is clean and transferable before you pay — historically the number-one pitfall. From 1 January 2026 stamp duty on property is abolished, and a reduced 5% VAT applies to a qualifying first home (capped by size and value). Non-EU buyers need routine Council of Ministers permission.
