Summer in Cyprus is nocturnal. The days are for the sea and the shade; the real social life begins when the sun drops and a warm breeze makes the whole island want to be outdoors.

Under the stars

Open-air cinemas return each summer, screening films in courtyards and gardens with a drink in hand. Seaside amphitheatres and town squares host concerts and festivals, from classical evenings to island pop, and the marinas and beach bars run late. It is a season built for lingering after dark.

In the square

Beyond the headline events, the truest summer nights happen in the villages: a saint's-day fair, a band, tables spilling out of a taverna, grandparents and toddlers dancing at midnight. You do not need a ticket — you need only to turn up and be welcomed.
