She has been reduced to a rock and a rite, a place where couples pose and buses idle. The new show in Paphos wants her back, not as a tourist stop but as an idea: desire, and the trouble it causes, made local.
The artists are unsentimental. There is beauty in the rooms, but also unease, the sense that a myth this old is not decoration but a mirror. You leave less sure of the postcard, and more interested in the sea it was taken from.
A solo show of clay sculptures, made in Limassol, turns the human torso into shell, breastplate and vessel.
